“My daughter works as an Emergency room nurse. She is on the front lines, she sees patients with all sort of medical issues. Rebecca always finds the good in situations, her cheery disposition is a breath of fresh air in a hospital setting. Rebecca took it upon herself to obtain monetary donations from staff she works with to give to all the housekeeping staff in the Emergency department. She, along with a coworker raised $2000.00 and bought grocery gift cards for the 13 cleaners working in the emergency. Despite being very busy, Rebecca took the time and effort to celebrate the work of sometimes under recognized cleaning staff. Their hard work helps to keep the hospital running.” - Nominator
“Kurtis is a railway worker at CP Rail and has been working tirelessly to keep the railway running, shipments arriving and the trains moving. I would like to nominate him for all his hard work and commitment to helping keep his company going. Railway workers are essential as they delivery shipments to keep our country running.” - Nominator
“My brother-in-law, Kory, is a Respiratory Therapist. He is the most optimistic, "glass half full" kind of guy, but these last 6 weeks have been slowly chipping away at him. He has been working non-stop directly with patients infected with Covid-19 - he is the closest 'front line worker' to these patients, putting himself at risk of exposure every single day. But he never stops smiling. He is keeping positive. He comes home to his young family each day and puts on a brave face. We are so proud of Kory and continue to salute him and all healthcare heroes each night at 7pm, but I think Kory deserves special recognition. He is our personal healthcare hero.” - Nominator
“I would like to nominate our neighbour Mark, he is a fireman and overall a really great guy. He is always happy and willing to help out in our neighborhood when he’s off shift. Mark regularly mowed one of our neighbours lawn for a long time without ever being asked. He just knew that our other neighbour wasn’t up to it after open heart surgery. Mark is always lending out tools and gardening supplies to whoever needs it. He is also an avid gardener and enjoys sharing the fruits of his labour with those around. Thank you mark for being a first responder and just a nice and helpful guy. We are lucky to have him in our community.” - Nominator
“I am nominating Carl, he is a mailman who continues to do his job and provide the public with their essential mail and letters from loved ones in these strange and dangerous times. He does this with a most positive attitude and continues to show compassion, patience and understanding to customers especially during these stressful times. His wife is also essential service worker at the hospital, their son who has respiratory problems had to move in with his grandparents on Vancouver Island to self-isolate and stay safe while they continue to work and serve the public during this pandemic.” - Nominator
“I feel embarrassed to be nominating someone whose last name I do not know. I only know my Mom's LTC recreation support worker as Kim. Since the lock down and not being able to visit my Mom who suffers from Alzheimer's, Kim has been incredible by supporting Facetime and Zoom video conference calls so Mom's family can connect with her, not only by voice but with video weekly. We look so forward to being able to comfort and reassure our Mom weekly and give her virtual hugs and kisses during this unprecedented time. Kim has been supporting the residents in this neighbourhood long before the lock down and is very caring and loving. She is currently working very long hours and every time I talk to her, she is so supportive of connecting us and others with the residents. Our family is very blessed to have Kim taking care of our Mom.” - Nominator
